1.Definition of Street Photography
Many resolutions for street photography, and often debated and confused with other types of photography such as human interest, documentation, even to landscape, travel and portrait. Street photography is a type of photography that is quite popular, less than fans of landscape photography and portraits of humans (human photos). The advantage of road photography is that you can practice it in the streets of your city, no need to go far. The cost can be very cheap.
I myself agree with the German-born street photographer photographer but lives in Vancouver, Canada, named Fred Herzog, namely "To show the realism of the street (showing reality on the streets)" This statement is very simple, but very good at describing street photography.
The statement explains several things:
Location: street / street - can be developed into public spaces (including in restaurants, shops, mass transportation such as trains) and so on.
Photo subject: Usually the contents are humans in public spaces who are on the move, but can also be without humans for example architectural details.
Nature: Street photography shows reality as it is without being regulated and posed specifically.
Street photography often "overlaps" and is confused with other types of photography such as portrait, human interest, and coverage.
Different street photography with portrait: Portrait photography seeks to remove the character / nature of the subject of the photo, usually posed or influenced by the photographer and the background is arranged in such a way.
Different street photography with human interest: Human interest photography aims to generate empathy from those who see photos, for example feeling sorry, feeling like they want to help, or being happy, while the purpose of street is only to capture spontaneous moments.
Different street photography with documentation coverage: The purpose of documentation / photojournalism is photographing things that contain elements of news / features and usually aired in print / electronic media. The documentation subject is usually determined. Photographers usually already have a list of what will be photographed. Documentation photos are not as spontaneous as street photography.
There is a debate between photographers about whether street photography should be taken candidly / quietly without the knowledge of the subject of the photo? In my opinion, yes, candid produces the most "real" photos. If the subject knows to be photographed, usually the person's expression will change and become not authentic / natural anymore.
